About the Topic:
Paul Nugent will outline plans for a new SECWAC initiative: collaborating with the Philadelphia World Affairs Council Travel Program to bring unique international travel opportunities to SECWAC members. He will also describe the first of these events: a trip to Ireland in September for which he will personally act a Tour Host. The topic will be “Partition, The Troubles, and Brexit: 100+ Years of Irish Social and Political History”. The trip will include 2 days in Belfast visiting the Titanic Museum and various sites associated with the Troubles, and then 3 days in Dublin visiting Trinity College Dublin, the Irish Parliament, and sites associated with the 1916 Easter Rebellion. Paul has also organized presentations by experts on Irish history, Brexit, and the Irish Constitution.
About the Presenter:
Paul Nugent is Executive Director of SECWAC. Born and raised in Ireland, he emigrated to the US in 1989 after completing graduate studies at University College Dublin. Paul has a longtime interest in Irish history and current affairs, and has made presentations to various local libraries and organizations over the past few years on the impact of Brexit on Ireland in the context of Anglo-Irish history.
