The Topic: “The Overseas Trade of British America: A Narrative History”

Thomas Truxes, Professor of History at New York University, will present the 300-year history of the overseas trade of British America in the context of America’s involvement in today’s global economy. He will discuss how the British America economy became dependent on free and open markets, and how American prosperity and survival in the American Revolution was only possible because of the labor of enslaved Africans and Atlantic trade.
